WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a Summer Intern – Structural, Marine and Mechanical Engineer student to join COWI Try. Is this a description that suits you and your background?:

  • Are in your 3rd or 4th year of your Master’s degree in Structural, Marine, or Mechanical Engineering

Are you looking for an exciting summer internship within the maritime industry and offshore wind?

Duties and responsibilities
You will be working in our engineering department with various tasks. The job will primarily be to structure data related to our previous and ongoing projects, and gather insights related to our operations. The tasks will be established prior to, and during the internship, as relevant tasks will depend on the candidates’ background and company needs at that time. Typical tasks will be:

  • Gather, process, and evaluate time utilization from our vessels on various projects
  • Assisting with 2D sketching in AutoCAD
  • Working with vessel stability using the Autoload software
  • Assist in one or more of Fred. Olsen's Windcarrier ongoing projects
  • Develop vessel schedules and weather downtime analysis

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate in their 3rd or 4th year who preferably have their specialization in marine structures, marine hydrodynamics or marine system design. An interest in stability and marine operations will be considered a plus.

The position

Our summer internship is a 6-week programme designed to provide the experience and skills you need in your studies and future career. Our Norwegian and UK internship will begin on 19 June and ends on 4 August 2023, with one week off starting 17 July. By joining this position within Offshore structure and Marine Technology in Global Operational Technology (GOTE), interns may be offered technical challenges, tasks and group work within offshore structure, marine systems, and digitalization and technology at our offshore facilities for oil and gas in production, and new builds in addition to the common summer internship programme.

Your exact assignment will be decided based on our business needs, combined with your field of expertise and your interests, within

  • Offshore structure
  • Marine systems, (Mooring and Positioning Systems, Ballast Systems, Loading/Unloading Systems, Stability, etc.)
  • Technical support related to the operation, maintenance, and modification of our installations.

  • No more than one year of relevant full-time work experience
  • Have completed at least two years of higher education before the internship programme starts (19 June 2023)
  • Have at least one year of higher education left after the internship programme ends (4 August 2023)
  • The interns need to be located in the country where the internship takes place during its entire duration. Equinor does not support any relocation for our summer interns.
  • Candidates must have the necessary work permit for the country in which they are applying for a position. The work permits must be valid at the point of application and for the duration of the employment. The role:

The autonomous team in Trondheim is now searching for 2 summer students to join us working with state of the art ship autonomy development for the summer 2023.

You will be working with the ReVolt platform, consisting of a 1:20 scale model of the ReVolt in addition to a digital twin of the physical scale model. ReVolt is an unmanned and zero-emission ship concept designed for short sea shipping along the coast of Norway. The ReVolt was designed for low energy consumption and the propulsion system is fully electric.

Today, the scale model of the ReVolt vessel includes sensors for estimating own position and motion in addition to LIDAR, 360 Camera and a radar for observing the area around ReVolt. ReVolt is equipped a 5G router, and a sim card for transmitting data and commands between ReVolt and a remote control station. A connection to cloud storage and computing in Microsoft Azure is also established.

The digital twin, a virtual model, of the ReVolt scale model was developed to test and explore new control algorithms on the digital twin before integrating this control system on the physical model of ReVolt
The summer students will work on the physical ReVolt model, doing maintenance, writing controller code for among others collision avoidance in addition to working on the digital twin for incorporating sensor simulations using Gemini etc. Remote control of ReVolt will also be in focus for next summer.

Requirements

We are looking for graduate engineers (MSc) with backgrounds in or interest for marine technology. Specialization within marine hydrodynamics, marine structures or marine cybernetics and competence within programming are preferred qualifications.

Typical work tasks are design and analysis of floating structures, technology and concept development and development and maintenance of software to support such analyses. We are looking for summer interns with backgrounds in marine technology. Specialization within marine hydrodynamics, marine structures or marine cybernetics and competence within programming are preferred qualifications.

We seek to hire 3-4 summer interns, who have completed their 4th year, who will either collaborate on one task or work on separate tasks, depending on the skills and interests of the students. Typical tasks for the summer 2023 interns could be:

  • Hydrodynamic analysis with the use of SIMA or Orcaflex
  • Analysis of model test results
  • Structural analysis
  • Python development

Commercial Summer Intern
In order to support our vision to be Best on Water, BW LNG is looking for a highly motivated summer intern to support our Commercial team. Depending on qualifications and departmental needs, the summer intern might get an opportunity to assist in the Operations team on an ad hoc basis.

This is your opportunity to get hands-on experience in one of the world’s leading maritime organization.

Key responsibilities:
  • Conduct market research and analysis on the LNG shipping and FSRU sectors
  • Support the business development team in tender activities
  • Prepare marketing proposals and other related materials
  • Build and maintain project and financial models
  • Analyze trends and operational data
  • Participate in specific projects or Operations tasks as required
Qualifications:
  • Undergoing a degree in either Finance, Business Management, Economics, Shipping, Marine Technology, Industrial Economics, Engineering or equivalent
  • Current 3rd and 4th year students are preferred
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Strong Excel modelling and PowerPoint skills
Personal qualities:
  • High motivation and drive, flexible attitude
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of market dynamics
